Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in employing replay technology.
Video review technology will be launched at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Players will gain the ability to contest particular calls from the official, echoing the protocol already in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move follows just a season following the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding role of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the umpire to review other situations, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball touched an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Potential interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there is no cap on the amount of reviews a player can ask for.
Case in Point
A recent example took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper conceded it was a tough call for the umpire, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire viewed a replay and ruled the player was responsible for interference, granting the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews aren't exclusive to Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews in place at every one of its events.
Further Updates
Another change at Wimbledon this year involves the introduction of graphical cues on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves situations where the crowd have occasionally been unsure whether a ball was in or out.
Finally, with precisely 100 days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
